Seed Planting Instructions

The following is a very general description about how to plant California native seeds in landscaping situations. For more detailed help please call us anytime.

Site Preparation

Pick a sunny location. Clear site of  unwanted vegetation.

Grow and kill weeds

For best results the weed seed should be germinated and killed prior to planting. The best way to do this is to water heavily, let the seed sprout and then kill it with a herbicide. If possible repeat this at least 2 times.

Soil Preparation

Seed does not benefit from amendments. Rake only the surface area to 1-2 inches

Fertilizing

No additional fertilizer is required.

Sowing seed

It helps to improve uniformity if you mix seed with course sand before spreading. Broadcast on roughened surface then rake into top 1/4 to 1/8 inch of soil.

Post Planting

Keep surface moist during germination

Manually remove largest weeds from planting

Occasional irrigation will prolong bloom
