Plant Highlights

Theodore Payne Buckwheat is the lowest of the groundcover buckwheat selections and worthy of it's inclusion in our Tough As Nails list! This plant will thrive in a variety of soils and conditions. This selection is noted for its small leaves and tight habit. Ideal for slopes, for erosion control, and coverage. Buckwheats are important for butterfly and pollinator gardens. The flower color is cream, turning to rusty brown as the season continues. We have found this plant to stay under a foot high although others have clocked it at 3-1-3' high and 3'-4' spread.
Introduced by Theodore Payne.
