Plant Highlights

The large lobed leaves on this attractive tree will provide wonderful summer shade. It is deciduous and in the fall will provide multihued fall colors, especially in areas with sufficiently low temperatures. It can grow 10 feet in 1 year in optimum conditions so give it plenty of room. There are insignificant flowers but the winged seeds add texture to the landscape. This tree typically grows besides streams so prefers plenty of moisture. Plant this with other shade tolerant, moisture loving plants, including ferns. Although not commercially used for syrup production, syrup can be produced from its sap. This large maple gets 30-60 feet high, and occasionally even up to 80 feet.
