Atriplex leucophylla is a species of saltbush known by the common names Beach Saltbush and White Orache. It is native to the coastline of California and Baja California  and the Channel Islands  where it is a resident of beach dunes and other sandy areas. Although technically a wetlands species  this plant is drought tolerant surviving on only occasional water.A small grey-greenish to white groundcover reaching only 1"-3" high and spreading a few feet. The bloom period of this species is one of the longest of the Atriplex genus  it blooms from April to October. The blooms are white against the white-ish foliage so they tend to be inconspicuous.  Important source of seed for birds.
