This California native is a perennial grass  that  grows in many types of habitat. It is found in open meadows  & woodland up to the subalpine zone.Best planted en masse. It's a bright green cool-season grass that withstands foot traffic and requires half the water and mowing maintenance of traditional turf. Left unmowed  it creates the look of a natural  informal meadow. Foliage stays close to the ground  the flowering stems reach up to two feet. Expect some summer dormancy.
