This plant is versatile-tolerates extreme heat or cold. Does best with good drainage. Stanleya pinnata is one of the best caterpillar food plants for Pontia protodice (Checkered white) and particularly Pontia beckeri.  In addition the flowers of this plant are a marvelous nectar source for many butterflies and numerous insects.
