This west coast native grows in moist areas at low elevations. This annual grass forms tufts of stout, erect stems to about 1 foot high. Flower spikes form in midspring which are yellow to reddish brown in color. Shear the flowers off to keep the foilage attractive longer. This is a summer dormant grass and new growth will appear in the fall. We suggest you divide the clump every 2 to 3 years to keep under control.
