Harmony manzanita (A. densiflora ?Harmony?) is an evergreen shrub suitable for a mounding groundcover or a low hedge. Harmony has astonishingly beautiful smooth red bark a feature accentuated by the plant?s larger-than-typical softly pointed green leaves. It grows densely 2- 3? high with a 6?-8? spread and takes shearing well. In spring Harmony is illuminated with a multitude of tiny pink lantern-lie flowers; the masses of urn-shaped flowers draw in hummingbirds and butterflies alike. Harmony manzanita tolerates many types of soil including clay sand loam and gravel. This easy to grow low shrub is able to withstand wet winter conditions including flooding while preferring dry summer conditions. Drought and heat tolerant it is a selection from the dry climate of Sonoma county. On the coast Harmony manzanita takes full sun and inland would appreciate some afternoon shade to look its best. Very low water needs once established. A dependable variety of manzanita tolerant of many garden conditions.
