Joan Mirov is a naturally occurring hybrid of the coastal C. griseus and the inland growing C. foliosus that was selected and introduced by Rodger Raiche at UC Berkeley. It will grow to 4?-6? tall and 10?-12? wide. It responds well to pruning and may be the most disease resistant ceanothus to date. Very dark shiny 1/2? leaves neatly covering slender stems creates a great large scale bank cover. In spring the plant is blanketed with very dark buds and rich indigo blue flowers. Plant in light soil and protect from the hot afternoon sun. It grows well in coastal areas but may need more rigorous testing in inland valley conditions. Hardy to 15 degrees F.
