Purple Nightshade is a 2 to 3 foot high perennial that produces attractive purple flowers with small green and white centers. The plant has a large leaf  open growing habit and produces green fruits. This plant is a relative of the tomato but do not be fooled! this plant is poisonous so please consider small children etc. when deciding on planting location! This plant needs little water  although some supplemental winter irrigation will keep the leaves looking healthy. Purple Nightshade will do well in a chaparral garden  also in borders or in decorative containers  but use caution due to its toxicity.
