This Flannelbush has gorgeous 3" yellow flowers that provide quite a show from April to August. This shrub is larger than the 'Ken Taylor' hybrid and smaller than the Fremontodendron californica growing to between 6-15' high and 10' wide. A rocky mulch around the roots provides the best soil as without good drainage the plant is susceptible to root rot. Be very sure not to overwater once this shrub is established. If possible plant your Fremontodendron in late fall so that it is established before the summer avoiding the danger of overwatering. The dry hairs on the leaves can be irritating to skin so it is best to plant this away from high-traffic areas. They are fire-followers and are fast growers.
