Pickleweed is a low mounding grouncover that prefers alkali soils and lots of water. The leaves thin and scalelike growing straight up and having few growth nodes per leaf. The leave are a light green and transition to a darker greenish-gray at the base. It can found in wetlands Riperian forest and marshes usually in the more rocky and clay areas. It has small light brown flowers at the tip of each leaf commonly visited by butterflies in the spring.
