Giant Chalk Dudleya  also known as Britton Dudleya  is a very dramatic  luminous succulent that is native to the coastal cliffs of northwestern Baja California. It is prized for its striking 12 to 18 inch wide rosette of chalky-white fleshy leaves. In spring  a 1 � to 2 � flower stalk arches upward and turns a dark red as the pale yellow flowers open. Giant Chalk Dudleya makes a perfect accent in a well-drained rock garden or in containers. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun on the coast and with part shade inland. It will look best if they are kept dry in the summer months. Plants grown in sandy soil or in containers will accept summer water as long as the soil drains well. Dudleyas in pots prefer clay containers as this allows their roots to ?breathe?. When planting in the ground  place the plant at a slight angle to prevent water from collecting in the rosette.
