San Miguel savory is an aromatic low growing perennial shrub for shady areas. It grows well in containers and has a creeping habit not reaching heights above 1? and spreading at least 3?. San Miguel savory looks very lush and full covering the ground with overlapping oval medium green leaves. Small white flowers appear in spring and summer and the fragrant leaves are reminiscent of mint which it is related to. Found in the wild in chaparral and oak woodlands it would be an excellent choice for groundcover in a shaded or semi shaded place and looks lovely cascading off a wall or edge of a planter. A good dose of water twice a month in summer will keep San Miguel savory looking its best; it is hardy down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. This is an especially rare native in California listed by the California Native Plant Society as endangered in our state. Give this botanical jewel a home in your backyard or patio and enjoy the aesthetic appearance and refreshing aroma of its attractive foliage.
